  • One thing is certain, the only constant is change… but why do we find change and changing so difficult? [more info]

Most of us find it difficult to deal with change. Most people wrongly judge or blame themselves for their reluctance or difficulty to either deal with change or change themselves. Just ask those who have tried to give up smoking or go on a weight loss diet. You are not to blame. The answer lies deep inside your brain. Improvements in brain analysis technology have allowed researchers to track the energy of a thought coursing through the brain. Learning these new insights will assist you to ameliorate the pain of change and to improve your ability to adapt to new ways of doing things.

  • Introduction Emotional Intelligence [more info]

When 58% of performance on the job is due to self-awareness, managing one's emotions, picking up on social cues and building effective working relationships, you can see why it is so important to equip everyone in your organisation with these vital skills and why increasingly more organisations employ us to impart this knowledge.

Numerous studies in the world of organisational development have also established a link between this disconnect (often described as lack of feelings) and organisational brain drain (loss of talent). Organisations that ‘feel’ have higher chances of retaining their best employees. These ‘feelings’ are in fact the various dimensions of Emotional Intelligence (EI) which is the ability to sense, understand and effectively apply the power of emotions.

Emotions have long been considered to have enormous power. In Latin emotions were described as ‘motus anima’ meaning ‘the spirit that moves us.’ However over the last 200 years medical science had disconnected the mind from the brain as medicine grew to become a technical expertise. As a society, we have paid a heavy price for this disconnect – separating emotions from intellect, which has caused the levels of happiness and satisfaction in our lives to rapidly decline. No matter how sophisticated, logical and pragmatic we think we are, it is ultimately our emotions that motivate and drive us.

Some of the topics we cover in this session:

    • EI what is it?
    • Why EI can significantly improve employees engagement, performance and job satisfaction.
    • Why EI is essential to your success team and organisational effectiveness.

Duration: depending on clients needs, from 1 hour to ½ day. The concepts, principles and emotional Intelligence techniques will be addressed depending of the duration of the training.

This insightful and inspirational workshop is aimed at employees at all levels and is an inspirational and life enriching experience.

  • What is applied Emotional Intelligence? [more info]

By now many people will be familiar with concept of Emotional Intelligence. Often these skills don’t come naturally. Corporate XL provides these essential skills to dramatically raise the level of Emotional Intelligence. There are organisations who extensively research Emotional Intelligence and why it is so important in Business context. Rather than theorising about EI and presenting an academic view point, (the what and why) we specialise in actually providing the skills to execute EI. That’s why we use the term Applied Emotional Intelligence.

Emotional Intelligence involves a set of skills that defines how effectively you perceive, understand, reason with and manage your own and others’ feelings. It has been established that Emotional Intelligence is the most important factor in how well you relate to others personally as well as professionally. It has also been established that while IQ gets you the position, EI gets you the promotion. Why? People skills and Emotional Intelligence skills become increasingly more important the higher your position in your organsiation. Emotions affect the way people think and make decisions which is essential in the workplace. Emotional Intelligence also underpins how well employees get along as emotions are an inherent part of workplace activities at all levels.

Depending on the duration of the workshop, the Applied Emotional Intelligence workshop will provide information and tools in each of the following categories.

    • emotional self-awareness
    • emotional expression
    • emotional awareness of others
    • emotional reasoning
    • emotional self-management

    • emotional self-control

  • Leadership Capabilities; The Emotionally Intelligent Leader [more info]

What sets an Emotionally Intelligent Leader (EIL) apart from others is the extent of their intra & inter-personal intelligence. Building on many of the concepts of the Performance Web, Tao de Haas gets to the heart of leadership in this insightful and enriching program.

Duration: This workshop is designed as either a one or two day workshop.

    The Emotionally Intelligent Leader

What sets an Emotionally Intelligent Leader (EIL) apart from others is the extent of their intra & inter-personal intelligence. The EIL has a great sense of optimism together with the ability to be pragmatic, realistic and flexible. Tao de Haas gets to the heart of leadership in this insightful and enriching program.

    Intra-Personal Intelligence

The EIL has a good level of self-awareness and insight into their values, strengths, and abilities. They also understand their less developed areas, including the ‘shadow self’. The EIL understands their ‘inner ecology’ profoundly affects their ‘outer ecology.’ They acknowledge; ‘for things to change first I must change’.

    Leading others forth

Only when you can lead yourself can you lead others in the true sense of the word; positively influence, leading others forth, facilitating potential and encouraging growth. In that sense the emotionally intelligent leader is a true educator as the word education comes from the Latin ‘edu-care’ meaning, to lead forth.

    Inter-personal Intelligence

The EIL also has well developed inter personal skills. Because of their superior people skills they use collaborative language and are able to turn potential confrontation and conflict situations into opportunities for collaboration. They know how to ‘deal with difficult people’ and how to achieve ‘win/win’ outcomes.

    Staying cool under pressure

The EIL knows how to respond rather than react in challenging situations and how to stay cool under pressure. They know how to respond to change and are able to help others to do so.

    Expanding minds and shifting paradigms

An EIL moves beyond mere skills to expand people’s minds and shift their paradigms. Their understanding of what motivates people comes from knowing how feelings and emotions play a vital role in human behaviour. This doesn’t mean however that they are just the “touchy feely” type; only using listening skills and empathy as their main tools; this leader knows different situations require different interventions and skilfully uses the appropriate ‘tools’ for each
